An industry leader in the world of publishing and high-end editorial services turned to Arkadia for a translation into English of a complex volume that gathered together the results of a scientific study into one of the most prestigious wine-growing regions in Italy.
OVERVIEW OF THE PROJECT
Technical and editorial translation service
Languages: Italian > English
Length: over 100,000 words
CHALLENGES
The study to be translated was extremely complex, in terms of technical terms and content.
From a technical point of view, the texts were divided into many files in different formats: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe InDesign. In terms of content, the difficulty laid in the text’s dual nature: the descriptive sections about the region and wine used a multifaceted and suggestive language while the parts dedicated to the science of wine-making were marked by a lavish lexicon of specialized technical terms.
SOLUTION
The project manager assigned to this project by Arkadia carefully selected a translator specialised in oenology who could also tackle scientific texts, flanked by a professional proof-reader with similar experience.
In order to manage the large quantity of content, an ad hoc document management system was implemented to organise files and revised versions, and track all steps taken in the process.
The translation stage was carried out using a sophisticated translation software, MemoQ. The entire translation was then revised and, once the work had been paged by the customer, the drafts were subjected to careful proof-reading before printing.
RESULT
After 8 weeks, a deadline agreed with by the customer due to the importance and size of the project, Arkadia was able to deliver a translation of the book with a service that exceeded expectations.
The Arkadia team not only translated the material in question with maximum care, but also helped improve the original text by identifying some inaccuracies in the Italian version – this contribution was recognised and appreciated by the customer:
“I would sincerely like to congratulate the person who put such attention, effort, and concentration into this complex work. This person was so focused on the topic that he/she noticed some inaccuracies in the Italian text that had slipped my attention. From the comments made, I understood that the person involved had not simply provided a translation but had made a strong effort to understand and investigate the topic.
This is an extremely rare quality. So, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your work, precision, reliability, punctuality, and respect for deadlines. It is a pleasure to work with such professionals.”
